What is CARDS?
CARDS (Computer-Assisted Retail Decision Support) is software that lets meat retailers evaluate alternative meat purchases with respect to cost, yield and value. It has been designed to be small, fast and easy-to-use. CARDS runs on any machine that runs Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or Windows NT. CARDS was developed by researchers at Texas A&M University and the National Live Stock and Meat Board, with funding from checkoff dollars provided by industry groups. The software and documentation is copyright 1991-1995 by the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station and the Meat Board, but it may be freely copied and distributed.

What are the differences between Beef, Pork and Lamb CARDS?
Other than specific functionality appropriate to the various species (different retail cut libraries and cutting tests, for example), there is only one difference: Beef and Lamb CARDS let you generate new cutting tests from a statistical database; Pork CARDS comes with about 60 existing cutting tests.

How do I install CARDS?
Download the appropriate CARDS file (BEEFCARD.EXE, PORKCARD.EXE or LAMBCARD.EXE) into a local directory on your computer. Run the file, which will decompress it into several files needed for installation. Run the SETUP.EXE file and answer a couple of questions about where you want to put the program on your hard disk. That's it.
